Care your mattress

Proper care will keep your bed in good condition. Read the following manufacturers care instructions and ask your retailer for future advice to help you get the best out of your bed during its natural life.

1. Do not roll up or fold a mattress while transportation, cleaning or storing as this can cause permanent damage. Pocketed Springs Mattresses should be transported horizontally or with the longest side downwards.

2. Remove plastic bag form the mattress before using it.

3. Handles are designed to help you position
a mattress on its base - do not use them
to support the full weight of the mattress
- they may pull out and damage the fabric.

4. Do not put a new mattress on,

a.  A broken or wrong size base.
b.  A board between the mattress
     and the base,
c.  A slated base, with more
     than 5cm space between the
     slats,
d.  A double or queen mattress on
    two level different bases.

5. Use a washable, protective cover to
protect the mattress (and pillows) from stains.
Barrier fabrics for allergy sufferers are also
available.

6. In the mornings, throw the bedclothes back
and let the mattress breathe for 20 minutes to allow body moisture to evaporate.

7. Turning the mattress over from side and side and end-to-end every few months (recommended every 2-3 weeks for the first 2-3 months) helps upholstery fillings to settle down more even. Luxurious mattresses, which may have much thicker layers of fillings designed to mould themselves into the contours of your body, may retain signs of these impressions, despite turning.

8. Do not make a habit of sitting on the edge of the bed and do not let the kids bounce on it.

9. Clean your mattress and base from time to time to remove fluff and dust. This should be carefully done so as not to dislodge fillings or damage tufts. Open windows while vacuuming, especially if there is an asthma sufferer in the house. Never over soak a mattress or base.

10. Don’t use mattress for ironing. This may damage irreparably the mattress cover.

All the above can impede comfort and reduce the lifespan of the mattress as well as affect any existing guarantees.
